September’s geek dinner was one of the earliest in the month - on the 16th at El Coyote. We had a great collection of folks even with my one week notice. (I promise, I’m planning to give more heads up - it’s just that I have this day job these days.)
Exciting announcements were Barcamp 6 in October and the new Valley Technology Happy Hour (kicking off this week on Wednesday the 24th.)
The usual conversation, arguements, discussion, guffaws and faces were seen. Amanda set off the emergency alarm - but that’s a story I’ll let her tell….

We’re keeping it easy for August - since we’re probably focusing on vacations or Burning Man or whatever shiny new thing in our life. So come on down to Shakey’s Pizza in Hollywood on Tuesday, August 19th at 8pm for some low key geek talk and pizza.
RSVP on upcoming so we know how many tables to wrangle. And bring $$ for beer and pizza and quarters for the arcade.
The GeekDinner’s very own Heather Schlegel (yes, she has a last name) is shaking things up making waves joining Crowdgather. press release: here
Today on Sean Percival’s blog we found the news that he’s packing up shop at Mahalo and heading over to LA tech startup DocStoc. It’s what appears to be a bittersweet job move as we have many friends and great respect for the crew at Mahalo.
From his blog:
“Today is going to be my last day with Mahalo.com. The last 8 months here have been an amazing experience for me. Truly unique and rewarding on so many levels. Leaving it behind has been a very tough decision for me. Big thanks to Jason and C.K. for giving me a chance and some footing in this crazy industry. Huge respect and gratitude to the Mahalo staff, both in-house and the many remote guides. There is no shortage of great ideas and people here; I’m certainly going to miss it all.”
Sean is a beloved member of the LA community and we’re glad he’s not leaving the city. He stands to make a strong impact at DocStoc heading up their content and SMO/SEO efforts and I hope you can all wish him well in his transition.
Thanks to everyone for showing up to beta test our friends at uWink. Although their system may have been slightly compirimised, all ended well with good food, awesome beers & drinks and great interaction. I’m just hoping they add animatronic Chuck E. Cheese Karaoke.
Special thanks to Riz & Brent for having us.
Join us at Mao’s on Melrose for the July’s Geek Dinner.
Way back during year 1 of the LA Geek Dinners we visited Mao’s in Venice - everyone loved it and had a great time. The Melrose location is much larger and we’re going to take it over in July.
July’s dinner is price fixed at $20 a head (includes paypal & eventbrite fees) and covers awesome Chinese food and beer and wine. Buy your tickets here: http://lageekdinner.eventbrite.com/
If $20 is too much for you, contact Heather to see what we can work out.
See you in July and stay cool!
UPDATE: Feel free to spread the word on Upcoming and Facebook.
The Poetic Prophet (AKA The SEO Rapper) is back with another marketing rap.
This was just too good not to post. His beats are fresh, and he really runs a tight ship with his design requirements.
